We Israelis, are very proud of our openness and friendliness to strangers. It is very heartwarming to hear and read stories of tourists who tell how the locals were friendly and willing to help while they visited Israel.
But the people of Belgrade win over us in leaps and bounds. Whenever we needed help with directions or anything else, people literally went out of their way to help us, always with a beautiful smile.
My Serbian collogue says that it is because they are not too used to tourists yet. I hope he is wrong…
And in any case, when people are warm and friendly, it shows on their appearance too.
