Zemun is a pictorial township, north-west of Belgrade’s main urban area, and across the meeting point of the Danube and Sava rivers. It used to be a separate town until it was absorbed into Belgrade in 1934, but in fact, it remained quite separate from the rest of the city until the construction of New Belgrade, in the beginning of the 21st century. Today, it is actually a neighborhood of New Belgrade.
At the center of Zemun, there is a small but beautiful market, called, Sumadija market. It is one of the must go places in Belgrade, both because of its wonderful market atmosphere and the bargain prices for clothing, souvenirs and whatever you expect to find on a market.
Zemun is fun and beautiful day or night, especially because after you visit the market, you can go to one of the restaurants and cafés at the bank of the Danube river and enjoy the beautiful riverbank scene, day or night.
