First of all let me write some words about the Canaries where Tenerife (Teneriffa) is situated. If you are not familiar with those details, it will help you a bit.
This archipelago is situated in the Atlantic Ocean. The group of islands encompasses seven main islands and six others, much smaller ones. The seven main islands are ( descending area and original names): Tenerife — Fuerteventura — Gran Canaria — Lanzarote — La Palma — La Gomera — El Hierro. Will you really know the other ones? I don't think so. If you are interested, have a look into the world wide web. These islands belong to Spain. So all people out there are speaking Spanish (Español Atlantico).
If you will have a look at a map, you can find this archipelago "next" to Africa, Morocco. "Next" means about 100 to 500 kilometers away. The nearest ones to Africa are Fuerteventura and Lanzarote; the longest distance is to reach El Hierro (171 words).
