You may be asking yourself, who the hell is this person? Maybe not? Well, allow me the honors. My name is PJ and im a travel-aholic, this is where everyone says "hi PJ" and it echoes throughout the room as the audience waits for my spiel. Here we go...
Mad 80s swagger
When I was a child at the ripe age of 6 I got a blacked out Huffy BMX bike for christmas. I can remember bolting out the front door in my Alf underwear and riding around the block until my skin was purple from the bitter cold. The freedom, the excitement of going somewhere, the rush of the unknown took over me. It was the begining of my path to explore far and wide.
Since those days of innocence the huffy bike morphed into the form of a passport and a 36 liter bag, and less innocence. When I was 20 I encountered adult hardships like working a 9-5, bills piling up, stress, and terrible relationships. All within normal parameters of early adulthood. However, I never considered myself normal by any means. I was looking for something that was missing in my life but every turn i took was a dead end on finding said "thing".
I remember meeting her, long dark brown hair, flowy flower dress, twirling around the polo fields at Coachella. She looked at me and said in a thick Ozzy accent "Oi ratbag, you've got ciggys, see em in your pocket". Needless to say I had fallen in love immediately with this magical little koala bear from Australia. I knew at this point and time I was more than likely quitting my job the following Tuesday and selling everything I owned to go the furthest south I had ever been.
Fate had made my decision for me, fate found what I had been looking for this whole time. Her name was...travel 🤣
First time stepping on foreign soil in Fiji circa 2007
From 2007 until current I have been blessed in visiting over 70 countries, living as a resident in 3 countries. I have experienced the highest of highs (quite literally) and the lowest of lows (also literally). I travelled alone with just my small backpack, camera, and the essentials. I've never been the checklist type, rather the opposite. I caroused from adventure to adventure, no roadmap, no plan.
I was gifted a 5 Frank coin from a man traveling overland from Europe to Asia of which became my deciding fate flipper. Without research, without planning I would get a crazy idea in my mind, take the fiver coin out...and flip it.
"Yes or no" "Left or right" "India or Oman" "Fried rice or mystery meat"
I'm excited to share these experiences with the Hive community. The good, the bad, and the ugly, no shame in my game. My main goal here is to share stories from my journey through life and engage with like minded individuals. I wish to continue my path of freedom and the search for true happiness. Please follow along and feel free to call me out on shotty grammar or anything of the like. I hope people will engage with me and possibly be inspired in one way or another to follow their dreams of travel or whatever it may be.
