Taxi trip to various destinations in Mauritius.
The one day while on vacation in Mauritius, we went to explore the Southern side of the Island. We drove with a local taxi driver that took us to various places. Along the road we passed some sugarcane fields, which is the main agricultural product of Mauritius.
The first place where we stopped was a small factory that builds model replicas of ships. All work is done by hand. The ships are made from teak wood. Here you can see the small individual wood strips these models are made off.
A lot of labor and detail goes into these models!!
Most ships are based on real ships, but below is a replica of the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean!!
Look at all the cannons on this ship!! The hull is also covered with real copper plates!!
After the ship factory we went to Trou aux Cerfs, which is a dormant volcano on Mauritius. Mauritius is a volcanic island. The volcano is about 80m deep with a diameter of around 350m. The sides of the crater is covered in lush vegetation.
I took a photo from this high point to give an idea of the surroundings
On this same trip we visited some temples, a waterfall and the seven colored sand, I will post on this at a later stage.
I hope you liked my post as much as I enjoyed writing it!!
The photos, were taken with my iPhone, at various places in Mauritius.
