We spent a lot of our trip in and around Hobart. This photo is of the Tasman Bridge. I lost count of the number of times we travelled over this going in and out of Hobart. It's huge, stretching almost 1.4 kilometres across the Derwent River and reaching a height of 60.5 metres in the middle. We'd watch the people walking across and think how keen they must be out there in the cold wind.
After a slightly scary drive up Mount Wellington we were met with this stunning view. You can see the thick grey layer of cloud at the top of this photo. We were very lucky that as we reached the peak it lifted and allowed us to look out at Hobart and beyond.
Some downtime between all the sight seeing, relaxing on the sand at Seven Mile Beach. We were rugged up against the gusty wind, watching the kite surfers, and hunting for shells in the sand. The greenery behind the sand dunes were filled with cheeky little Tasmanian pademelons (marsupials similar to wallabies and kangaroos).
On a day trip to Devenport we stood on the shore and watched the Spirit of Tasmania II head off on its trip across Bass Strait to Melbourne.
After leaving Devenport we headed west towards Stanley. There was a little lookout there that you could climb to get a great view of the Stanley Nut.
The countryside around Stanley was so green and made a stunning contrast with the sky blue water. The wind was something else though, almost blowing us off the lookout.
Thanks for your hospitality Tasmania! It was such a great holiday, these photos are just a tiny taste of what we crammed in to the two weeks. We can't wait to visit again.
