Within the last 2 months while living in Asia, I´ve already made two trips to Cambodia. Unfortunately I didn´t make it to Siem Reap yet to see the world famous Angkor Wat Temple as I had to stay in Phnom Penh for Business :(
But anyways I´ve at least seen the city itself on a rainy day and taken some pictures :D Unfortunately, in my opinion, it´s not a very beautiful city but definitely one to stop by for a history lesson and to see the less developed Asia, still selling mostly everything in mobile shops on the streets (writing this I wonder why I forgot to take a picture of them ...). So it definitely got it´s own charm as well :)
The above being mentioned I suggest everyone who wants to visit Phnom Penh to take the time to explore the Russian Market, to go to the River front, taking a river cruise, visiting the royal palace and definitely taking the time to visit the S21 Prison, which is a museum on the Cambodian History during the time of the Red Khmer. The least being a very interesting stop, you should prepare yourself for the cruel truth, which will be a bit depressing especially with all the things you can see in there. (I didn´t take any pictures inside the museum as I didn´t feel it to be appropriate. But in case you are interested just google for "S21 Prison" and you´ll find a lot of information about it.)
Okay, but now let´s get to the Picture part :)
1. The Royal Palace - Main Building
2. The Royal Palace - Side Building
3. The Royal Palace - Small silver Pagoda
4. On the River Cruise - Experiencing the huge gap between rich & poor
(The Hotel in the back is a 5-Star one, while the fisher families in the front are happy to have a roof...)
5. The Riverfront at night
