this is a collection of pics from my various trips to the Unites States. I have to admit, all those were business trips (I never felt the urge to visit the States voluntarily so far, as there are still numerous places I have not seen in Europe).
Starting in St. Louis, Missouri, I visited the 630-foot high "Gateway Arch" - a really cool place, architecturally and construction-wise. It is the tallest monument in the USA and you can get up to the top with a tram which is "half-Ferris wheel and half-elevator". The black dots in the first picture are the windows from where you have a nice view over the city which otherwise was not that particularly interesting.

diesmal eine Sammlung von Photos aus verschiedenen USA-Reisen. Ich gebe zu, alles waren Firmenreisen (ich hatte bislang nicht das Bedürfnis, in die USA zu reisen, da es auch innerhalb von Europa noch viele unentdeckte Plätze gibt).
Fangen wir mit St. Louis, Missouri, an. Ich besuchte den 192m hohen "Gateway Arch", der architektonisch und von der Konstruktion her recht interessant ist. Es ist das größte Denkmal der USA und man kann mit einer Mischung aus Zahnradbahn und Lift bis an die Spitze gelangen. Die schwarzen Punkte im ersten Bild sind die Fenster ganz oben, durch die man einen netten Überblick über die Stadt hat, die aber ansonsten wenig spektakulär ist.

Some years ago I was also in Miami where I was participating in a sort of team building event. We had a nice hotel.
Vor einigen Jahren war ich in Miami wegen einer Art team building event. Zumindest hatten wir ein nettes Hotel.
"Sunrise Police" - ??
The cool thing about Miami are (apart of the many fancy bars and places for spending the evenings) the Everglades, a subtropical wetland that provides habitat for numerous rare and endangered species. With these "airboats" you can drive through the grassriver landscape. The boats make a hell of a noise. I can´t imagine how this is consistent with nature protection (but for sure it is consistent with capitalism 😊)
Das Highlight von Miami sind (neben den vielen Lokalen und hippen Bars) zweifellos die Everglades, ein subtropisches Marschland, das Lebensraum für viele gefährdete Pflanzen und Tiere bietet. Man fährt mit diesen propellor-betriebenen Booten durch die Fluß/Graslandschaft. Die Boote machen einen Hölenlärm, und ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass das in Einklang mit Naturschutz ist (aber in Einklang mit dem Kapitalismus 😊)

When is was in San Diego, I visited the Torrey Pines park north of La Jolla in San Diego, California. The name comes from the endangered Torrey Pine subspecies, Pinus torreyana which is found only in this area.
Als ich mal in San Diego, Kalifornien war, besuchte ich den Torrey Pines Park nördlich von La Jolla, benannt nach der gefährdeten Kieferart Pinus torreyana, die nur hier wächst.

Finally I am occasionally in Boston, Massachusetts (the company I am working for has its headquarters there). It is quite different than other places and more European - I guess due to the Harvard university and other educational institutions.
Schliesslich bin ich ab und zu in Boston, Massachusetts (die Firma, in der ich arbeite, hat ihren Sitz dort). Boston wirkt europäischer als andere Städte, vermutlich durch die Harvard Universität und andere bekannte Bildungseinrichtungen.

When I was there last time , it was before the presidential election. I ran into a demonstration against both candidates!
Beim letztes Mal war es knapp vor der Präsidentenwahl. Ich stolperte über eine Demonstration gegen beide Kandidaten!
