As a family we have been to Scotland many times. We have family up there, so we often visit them and we've also taken holidays there. I get reminders from Google Photos of what I was doing in previous years. Here's some of the pictures that came up.
This was on a cruise of Loch Ness. The boat has some little stickers on the windows so you can get a monster shot. That's the nearest we got to seeing the famous Nessie, but the boat owner said he's seen something mysterious there. The boat also had sonar, but nothing showed up on that. I'm sceptical that there could be any large predator in the Loch given that it's not that rich in fish and it's been extensively surveyed many times. It's a nice story for the tourists and we played along for the fun of it.
Urquhart Castle is a spectacular ruin on Loch Ness. We could have taken the boat there, but ended up driving. Luckily the weather was good whilst we were walking around. Later we drove up the Loch to Inverness and the heavens opened. That was really heavy rain and not fun to drive in. You take your chances with the weather in Scotland.
On this particular trip we stayed in a cottage near Aviemore and did various activities with the kids, including riding the river rapids in inner tubes. Here I am trying to not drown. I did manage to do one stretch under water when I capsized. The water levels were actually pretty low that year.
On our way south we stopped at the spectacular Falkirk Wheel. This is to left boats between different levels of the canal. It's a marvel of enghineering. We've been there a couple of times, but have yet to go on the boat trip that goes up and down the the wheel. It's still amazing to just watch.
I've still got a lot to see in Scotland. It's a big place. I can recommend a visit, but be prepared for rain even if the sun is shining.
