I was fortunate enough to have traveled to the country of Jordan in the Middle East this past week. The country consists of a population that is around 90% Muslim. I first noticed when I agreed to switch seats with a man on the plane who then invited me to spend time with his family at his home in Amman just for doing so. Never before have I felt so welcome amongst strangers. I was greeted by everyone with the common greeting of "As-Salamu Alaykum", which has a literal translation of May Peace be upon your family, and "Habibi", which may have been a little more odd but has a literal translation of my love. If only the world was as accepting, respectful, and welcoming as the people of whose Muslim culture I was fortunate enough to experience.
