Hello South Island! We were up early and ready for our journey on the Ferry across to the South Island. What an epic trip that is!
Coming into the sounds is so freakin beautiful!!! We were both fizzing with excitement at the thought of the new, untravelled roads ahead.
The state highway follows the East coast down and has only just re-opened following the earthquake that shook up the coast and roads in 2016. It was slow travelling but I didn't mind one bit, had plenty of seals to entertain me :P
The water is SO cold but the air temp SO hot along with boiling hot sand and stones. We ventured in for VERY quick swims. How amazing are these colours though?!
We decided to keep driving a bit more since we had a lot of distance to cover. We arrived to the Hurunui River mouth which was so beautiful we decided to stay the night.
