In a little under 2 weeks time we'll be departing on a 2-4 week trip around the South Island of New Zealand! If you havenāt seen our previous posts, Daniels parents have a super awesome campervan and they said we can use it! Daniel is shooting his friends wedding in Wanaka so we thought why donāt we make a big trip out of it. Wedding aside we havenāt got any fixed plans!
We didnāt get the chance to go chase a waterfall this week, normally Monday is our adventure day but the weather was a bit grim. There is much to organise with the campervan and work too. We have replaced the tail lights and now have some good looking LED lights, and this week we are getting a guy out to fix the fridge. Itās had a spring clean and the cupboards are stocked ā towels, cooking utensils, pillows and blankets.
Weāll just need to fill the pantry and fridge on the day! Although we are hoping to purchase fresh produce from roadside stalls along the way- they are very common around NZ! A great way to get fresh, quality & unpackaged (yay plastic free) produce.
Tonight weāll book onto the Inter Islander which is the car ferry between the North and South Island. Itās CRAZY expensive, I believe itās the most expensive ferry crossing in the world for the distance. For the campervan and myself + Daniel itās going to cost about $350 each way. Yikes! Letās hope we can fund the adventure with a little help from Steemit!
So far we know weāll depart on the 28th January and book onto the ferry on the 29th (pending whatās available!) from there weāll head down the East coast of the South Island and cut across to Wanaka by the 1st/2nd Feb! The road on the East coast is finally open again, it had been closed from November 2016 after the massive Earthquake hit. Hopefully we donāt experience any Earthquakes while weāre away!!!
After the wedding we can either head south and check out the rugged terrain at the bottom of the Island and we will follow the West coast back up. All I know is that we canāt miss the glaciers and Milford Sound, as well as Mount Cook National Park and I would love to stay/hike in the Abel Tasman National Park! Looking forward to seeing these beautiful places by the drones view too.
I bought a new notebook yesterday and Iāll be documenting the trip as well as sharing it on Steemit! If you have travelled around the South Island please let me know your favourite/must see and do activities in the comments!
