There are 3 sculptures that I will be sharing in this posting and they are called After Babel. The sculptures are in the form of a human face, while the other two are of wolves.
These statues are located not too far from where I lived, so whenever I walked to school, I always saw them. They are part of a park called Civiq Square. In spring time, this park is mega beautiful with pink cherry blossoms. However, the statues are placed more to accross the park, so they aren't right under the trees and whatnot.
These public art are located in Montreal, however they were actually donated by the city of Toronto, to mark Montreal's 350th birthday.
According to the sculptors, I quote:
After Babel/A Civic Square works to create a clearing between languages... While the human mask, its emphatic ear turned towards the ground, strains to remind us of our capacity to listen (even to secrets), the animal silhouette suggests that the parallel life of animals to humans is a life separated from us by our possession of language... Like the sign of friendship, like the friendship embodied by this gift between two cities, it is our hope that this sculpture will continue to create a clearing, a small meeting place where barriers might fall, even against relentless noise and the impending silence.
