La Boca
All good things must come to an end. So how do you end a vacation in such a marvelous place? In our case La Boca. During the day we ventured out to the part of the city called “La Boca.” The direct English translation of La Boca is “the mouth”. It seemed fitting since most of life is experienced through the mouth; you either breathe it in or taste it. Let me tell you, there was much to take in from this modest barrio.
La Boca is a huge tourist attraction due to its colorful pedestrian streets. This area is situated at the mouth of the Matanza-Riachuelo River and retains a significant amount of its European influence, which is evident through their architecture.
The well known Caminito street is located here whose notoriety comes from being able to view live tango performances. While we did not get to witness any tango, we were able to catch some good vocals by a local street artist.
The structure of the city is reminiscent of huge art project.
Painting the City Red...Green and Blue
Houses are painted vibrant colors that incorporate each hue of the rainbow. The streets are cobblestone, with detail being paid to each brick that highlights the walkway.
There are murals around every corner that disclose a tiny portion of the country's history, painted in such a compelling manner where you can't help but try and relive the moment.
So there you have it. The mouth of the city. But keep your mouths open, because Argentina still had something left to titillate our taste buds. So all you foodies stay tuned.
