I used to love walking around without my shoes when i was a kid. Since i have moved to hawaii i keep my shoes on! This photo is of a thorn from a Keawe (pronounced Kay Ah Vee) tree. As you can see, it is almost as long as my finger! If you wear soft shoes or sandals in the areas where these grow, you will be in a lot of pain! Only tough hiking boots will repel these guys! Ouch!
