During an English camp in Busan, South Korea, my Korean co-teacher gave me an impromptu lesson on speaking and writing in Arabic. One of my students filmed the fascinating cross-cultural interaction. The outgoing co-teacher, who was a bit rusty, had spent a short time in the UAE. I was somewhat aware of a few common Arabic words but never received a lesson on writing.
All in all, the video was simply a lesson on how human identities are fluid––we are individual products of unique, collective social systems, and it's imperative that we explore and respect the similarities and differences.
