On the very first day, as soon as we arrived in Cyprus, the guide told us that on the island there are a lot of cats. Then he told that few of the locals keep these animals at home, so the cats here are left to themselves. We were surprised, and decided to check whether this is true.
In that Cyprus these animals abound. we were convinced as soon as we decided to walk to the nearest beach. Mouser was sitting near one of the villas, basking in the sun, they were St ten.
ā Kitty, kitty, kitty! - my daughter, as a real lover of cats, was a joke to call the animals and suddenly those times jumped and went straight to our storna. Immediately the number of animals has doubled, and in a few moments and tripled. Nearly three dozen mewing faces were aimed in our direction, as if wanting to devour us alive.
Of course, none of them showed aggression. We just suddenly realized that in this place the animals feed and they thought that we brought them abuseabuse in confirmation of our assumptions to the side door of the Villa opened and on the threshold there was an owner of a house with a huge dish. He did not even have to call his wards, as a mustachioed pack ran to the man. He just put the food at the threshold and the cats began to eat. No one pushed, everyone just ate at a time, not brawling and fighting and not figuring out relationships. We silently watched the action and went on his way.
After last year in Turkey we witnessed how cats are treated there, for us it was some shock to see thin and semi-wild animals here in Cyprus. There all cats live in special houses on the street, which are organized for them by the city authorities, where they are fed by local residents and tourists. But this island is different.
Perhaps, here and in a row cats are more independent by appearance, but, to me nevertheless it seems that if they had a constant place for a lodging for the night and more nourishing food, they would look not such thin and hungry. However, where me know about cat's rights and freedoms? Perhaps this is true freedom: no need to RUB the master's feet, begging for another handout or meow at the door, demanding that he let you into the house. And around are found lizards and mice, which can be quietly caught, keeping a pristine hunting instinct.
