Travel Digest
#1 Outback Loop, Australia
First, is back with another instalment of his South Australian outback adventure. Travelling along the dirt track, he passes the world's longest fence (5,531km) and the world's largest cattle station (24,000km2—which is almost the size of Belgium—30,000km2). He stops at a memorial to pay his respects to an Austrian woman who died after leaving her broken-down vehicle in the height of summer. This highlights the dangers of travelling in the outback with little knowledge and experience. Eventually he arrives at Lake Eyre—a large salt lake and Australia's lowest point at 12m below sea level.
#2 Bristol to Tazewell County, Virginia, USA
Continuing his US adventure, takes us to Bristol, where country music was born and a town that straddles the Virginia and Tennesse state lines. A classic car show was in town, bringing back memories of the hit musical, Greace. As he gets closer to Tazewell County, the affluent homes give way to 'hillbilly hell' until finally he reaches the
rescue centre run by
. It currently houses 40 rescue dogs and a temperamental raccoon that comes and goes as it pleases. Unfortunately, this small town doesn't see many tourists, and
misses out on a craft beer since everyone already went home for the night.
#3 Tai Hang, Hong Kong
Finally, presents us with another one of his Hong Kong snapshots. This time, we go to Tai Hang, a small area only known to locals in the downtown area of Causeway Bay. This peaceful community hosts an annual mid-autumn festival, which dates back to 1880, and has its origins in a typhoon, a disappearing dead python and the plague. Today there are 80 food stores in Tai Hang in just over 100m on four streets. However, 97 restaurants have closed in the past ten years due to soaring rents. Even though this once bustling area went from prosperity to death in only ten years, it's still nice to walk around in.
