Christmas comes early to Budapest, and the most famous Christmas market in Budapest, located at the Vörösmarty square, opened on November 8th. I paid the market a visit already on the opening day, and I can warmly recommend it to all of you!
There was still some preparation work being done as we visited the market in the evening on November 8th (they still decorated the big Christmas tree and they worked on the decorations of the booths), but it was still an amazing place to be.
On a cold November day, what feels better than the smell of hot wine and delicious food being prepared outdoor?
Three of the metro lines in Budapest cross each other at the Deak square. If you leave the metro system there, you will immediately bump into a small market at the square. If you follow the so-called Fashion street from there (the one you can see at the picture above), you will see beautiful stores decorated with amazing colors and lights, and in the end, you will be at the Vörösmarty square, the location of the big and popular Christmas market.

In 2019, the square is divided into two parts. You have one side which is all about food and eating, and then you have the other side which is more about shopping all sorts of handicrafts. It is actually quite interesting to look around because it is not all junk that you can find everywhere else. This is real handmade stuff that you can barely find elsewhere, simply because it is handmade and you buy it straight from the creators. That makes shopping at the Christmas market in #Budapest way more interesting than a normal shopping visit to an H&M store, or some similar boring brand.
Above you can see examples of handmade figures that you can buy and place in your window once you arrive to your own flat or house again. You might not find so many objects that you can place on your actual Christmas tree, but you will find lots of objects that will decorate your house and make it beautiful for Christmas once you are safely back home.
The cups above might not serve as Christmas decorations, but they will for sure be able to make some people happy if they receive such a cup as a Christmas present from you!
The most important at the Christmas market
I guess many people will argue with me about this, but the most important at a Christmas market is the food, and in Budapest, you will find lots of food at the Christmas market. The stands from where you can buy food are giant, and they are looking fantastic, and the food on display looks stunning. If you come for a week, you can easily eat all your meals at the Christmas market and still have meals left that you haven't tested yet.
You will find hot meals, and also sweet cakes, desserts, and the fantastic Langos, one of the specialties of Hungary. Another specialty is the Chimney Cake. But, the latter one has become so popular, that you can now find it on Christmas markets all around the world, but when you eat it, know for sure that it origins from Transylvania (once Hungary, know a part of Romania).
