When you drive on the B34 from Gars am Kamp to Rosenburg, you have to pass Kamegg, a small village with approximately 250 inhabitants that belongs to the municipality of Gars am Kamp.
Probably you have already seen the ruins of the old castle when you drove by.
When you want to visit the remains of the medieval castle you can park your car at the old fire station of the volunteer fire brigade of Kamegg. Right of the fire station a small asphalted street leads up the hill.
After some meters a small path leads into the wood. Follow this small path in the wood.
The signpost is not very well visible in summer.
After some minutes of walking you'll see a pasture on your left side. Continue walking until you come to this bench. From this bench you have a beautiful view to the Kamp valley.
Right of the bench, a very narrow and overgrown path leads downhill.
Although this path is quite short, it is recommendable to use walking poles because it is very steep. It is also a good idea to wear long trousers because it is very overgrown, especially in summer.
When you managed to walk down this pass you reach the first gate of the ruins of the castle. The castle has been built around 1150. In 1621 it has been left and abandoned to decay.
There are not many remains of this castle and you'll be finished with exploring it after some minutes.
At some places there are steep abysses. Please take care of you and especially of children and dogs!
For the walk from the fire station to the castle you'll need around 10 to 15 minutes.
