Black and red oaks along with white are the dominate hard wood deciduous trees on Long Island NY. To find one standing alone I went to a local Manorville Golf Course. This is a medium age tree. They can live to be well over 100 years old.
The oldest Black Oak was claimed to be in Caumsett State Park. In 2006 the dying Black Oak was 556 yrs old and 7 feet in diameter.
