India's minorities have come up with marriage rules to protect their interests. First, it was in Meghalaya. Now in Mizoram. The Young Mizo Association (YMA) has demanded that a rule should be made to strip a woman of tribal identity if she marries a non-tribal.
This demand may look absurd on the surface, but it's not.
The demographic invasion is real. Someone is winning and someone is losing. It is in the interest of the winner to pretend as if nothing is happening. But those who are at the receiving end, cannot afford to turn a blind eye to what's happening on the ground.
Prediction: those women who married non tribal will collaborate with the enemies and act as a Trojan horse. They will do that in the name of gender equality. A befitting question we must ask to these Trojan horses is: where is your goddamn gender equality when the men are at the receiving end?
This move is likely to get replicated in more endangered communities. Hopefully, this preventive measure will get implemented and replicated far and wide. Good luck and long live YMA!
