I will start off by saying that what being aware means to me is definitely not sleeping only 10 out of the last 48 hours like I have done these past couple days. Pushing yourself to accomplish more is great, and often necessary if you really want to advance in life. I once heard an emcee say "if you want to be successful, then you must sacrifice sleep". While this is absolutely true, it is also vital that your body receives the proper amount of rest, so your mind can be fully aware, and you can feel rejuvenated.
Lack of sleep can lead to all sorts of negative effects, especially if you are pushing yourself to do more than normal under these conditions. It effects you irritability tolerance, stamina, energy levels, and your overall mental awareness in general. I have been staying up late and getting up early, working hard, and making something awesome out of my life, but I feel like CRAP right now, and I am definitely not fully aware. Eating some good food helped, but I know the energy from that will be short-lived.
Too many nights of insufficient rest, or multiple nights of no sleep, can lead to sleep deprivation. I have experienced this a few times in my life, but only in college and in jail. In college I had to stay up for multiple nights in a row on several occasions studying for finals. The pressures of college life are immense, so sometimes these kind of hard core study sessions were unavoidable. I remember I stayed up for over 72 hours studying for a calculus final once, and by the time I was walking to class to write the test, I was seeing double and hallucinating. I kept seeing little creatures popping out of the bushes that I knew weren't real. In jail they force sleep dep. on you purposely when you get transferred/go to court, to make you less aware, and less likely to try anything sketchy during transport.
There have been countless studies on sleep and its effects on the human body, but instead of getting into detail about all that research, I will just give you my simple truth from first hand experience. I need 9 - 10 hours of sleep to feel completely and fully aware. This amount varies from person to person, however it is pretty safe to say that on average most people need more than eight hours of sleep for complete & full awareness.
While proper rest and regeneration is a very important aspect of being aware, it is definitely not the only one. What being aware really means to me is being conscious, about the Earth and humanity, and moving everything in a positive direction of growth through the fall of greed. Movements of selflessness and generosity are currently spreading all over the Earth , and many groups (including ) on the Steemit platform are prime examples of this philosophical expansion.
I also believe that adopting these concepts in your everyday life opens the door for psychic development. When you truely open your heart to the Earth, it will open its heart to you, and grant you access to abilities otherwise undiscovered by our experience in this human condition. When in nature the more intense Earth energies will also amplify these abilities, which is why many that seek out and achieve spiritual enlightenment often end up living in remote locations.
When the Earth opens this door for you, it is usually your choice to walk through it, and often takes many years of experience and discipline to master. To me, mastering a psychic ability is only accomplished when you completely understand how to control the ability, instead of it controlling you by making you wonder whether it is your rational mind or psychic mind feeding you forethought. Complete awareness of how to make this distinction and identify the separation is the key to mastering any psychic ability. One way to achieve this is spiritual ascension through a lot of meditation.
I have noticed that when you enter the psychic realm, you start meeting more and more people with the equal or greaterawareness than you, and you start to be able to sense it with them. It is rarely ever spoken about, just a simple understanding and recognition between the two people that there is in fact a heightened sense of awareness in that way. So I thought it would be nice to write about a usually un-discussed topic, which I am sure will only reach the eyes of the people who are meant to read it.
To be aware is also to be empathic. If you worry about disturbing others, or the impact your actions and words will have on people and things other than yourself, that you are an aware individual. You are simply being aware of others happiness, and usually these type of empathic aware people also link their happiness to the happiness of others. That is a true empath. Empathic is actually a synonym of awareness, properly defined as "showing an ability to understand and share the feelings of another" (1).
To answer the question in short, "What does being aware mean to me?", it means being a fully rested, healthy, free thinker that is concerned about the feelings of their fellow man, and mother Earth, along with being receptive to the psychic energies that surround us.
I will post the top five selections for the design contest at some point tomorrow. You can view an updated list with the immense amount of entries by clicking here.
