He may be no Obama, or everything you wanted in a president, but Donald John Trump is officially United States’ 45-th one, whether you like it or not. Ever since the announcement of his presidential running, we had the chance to learn quite a few things about his point on view on important things, his method of work, but also some juicy details about his personal life. His shocking announcements and viewpoints made him dominate the social media alongside his counterpart Hillary Clinton.
As we go along getting to know the face behind the persona, we’ll learn quite a few things about him in the next four years, personal as well as professional. And while he gets comfortably settled in his new office, here are a few funny facts you could be interested in about the new president.
His hair
A Trump trademark on its own, his unique hairstyle was the subject of many commentaries and funny jokes during his electoral campaign. In spite of that, Donald had no problem confidently talking about it in an interview for Playboy magazine. It is regularly cut and trimmed by his wife, the former model, now first lady Melania Trump who is apparently very good at cutting hair. Other than that, he stated, he doesn’t do anything special to maintain its careless look. He showers and washes it, lets it dry naturally while he reads his newspaper, and then just puts a comb or two through it. Not exposing it too much to the outside environment (as he is almost always in his office, limousine or private jet) may be just another plus.
There’s a character in “Back to the Future II” based on him
In an interestingly twisted way, the second “Back to the Future” movie from 1989 was kind of really able to predict the future. The character Biff Tannen (played by actor Thomas Wilson) becomes a successful businessman, opening a grand casino and being regularly involved into politics, thanks to his cheating, selfish and violent personality. When comments about these similarities started appearing all over the media after Trump announced he was running for president, the writer Bob Gale admitted to basing this character truly and intentionally on Trump himself. Donald was already an established real estate businessman in the late 1980’s, so 27 years later, we can really say we went back to the future.
His terrifying fear of germs
We all have our fears and strange habits, but Donald Trump might just take it to another level. As well as many other celebrities, he likes to keep his hands clean, both figuratively and physically. Call it OCD or germaphobia if you like, he avoids touch contact as much as he can. Apparently, the new president doesn’t enjoy handshakes or any kind of activity that has to do with hands. This is a potential problem, given that he may just shake a numerous array of hands in his presidential career. Quite ironically, the hotel magnate also dislikes touching hotel elevator buttons or door knobs.
His guest appearance in “Home Alone 2”
Okay, so this one may not be so much as a “you probably didn’t know” one, but rather a “you probably don’t remember”. The Plaza Hotel in New York City is currently owned by an Indian conglomerate, but during the making of the ”Home Alone” sequel in 1992, it was owned and operated by none other than, you guessed it: mister Trump himself. When Kevin first arrives at the Plaza, he walks around the lobby looking for the front desk. He stops by a total stranger and kindly asks him where it is. This gentleman briefly responds, after which Kevin thanks him and walks along. Although the scene is very short, it’sjust one of the many appearances of Trump in a number of movies and commercials, which he enjoys being a part of.
He also starred in “Sex and the City”
Ask any SATC fan addict who’s watched it a countless number of times and they’ll confirm. The brief season 2 episode “The Man, The Myth, The Viagra” appearance of 1999 is just another one on Trump’s list. While Samantha’s enjoying a drink at a bar in downtown Manhattan after a long day at work, she notices a couple of elderly gentleman on a table in the back corner agreeing on a business deal by, imagine this, shaking hands! Carrie quite genuinely narrates the scene as: “Samantha, a Cosmopolitan, and Donald Trump. You just don’t get more New York than that.”
He doesn’t drink alcohol
Believe it or not, Donald Trump is an apparently sworn non-alcohol drinker ever since the death of his brother in 1982 by the addiction. Nevertheless, this didn’t stop him from engaging into the alcohol business back in 2006, when he launched his own Dutch-made vodka. Hitting the shelves didn’t quite produce the success he expected, so production was soon ended. According to an interview with the largest US vodka distributor, Aleks Zicovs, it was never sold well and they still had it in stock until 2016 when he ran for president. Believing that the popularity of the campaign would provide a second chance to sell it, it still didn’t go well.
He was a true Playboy
This one you may have seen coming or already knew, but there is a certain incident from the early 1990’s involving Trump’s wife at the time Ivana, and future wife (then mistress) Marla Maples. While the married couple was enjoying a Christmas in Aspen, Ivana had to learn the sad truth about him being involved with another woman. She tried to resolve this by confronting Marla in a restaurant, leading to a public fight which garnered the attention of the media and got a lot of press. Donald, on the other hand, the true businessman he is, saw this as a chance for great publicity. Soon after, Ivana divorced him and he married Marla in 1993.
As funny and enjoying all these random facts about Donald Trump may be, there is nothing we can do but lay our future in his hands. Let’s just hope we get more scandalous decisions and juicy gossip to talk about, so here’s to another four years of them!
