The situation with Iran shows a difference in views between Presidents Obama and Trump.
Both are dealing with the ways to keep the USD the reserve currency. Obama saw Iran as the major threat to that end while Trump sees the Saudis and the other Gulf states as the ones who could unravel it.
This is a trend that has continued for decades and played a large part in dictating US foreign policy.
It is also the reason why Trump backed out of the Iran deal.
