2 Timothy 4:3-4
3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
It is not often that I end up getting in debates in which people invoke the word of God as if they own it. I usually find, being religious, that I take no offense to those of differing beliefs. When being preached to, I try to make a conscious effort to accept it with grace knowing the attempt is made in good faith for the perceived goodness of my soul. That being said, I sometimes have difficulty doing so when fools try to use God as a justification for their argument, especially when the justification makes no sense.
The above Bible verse transcends any belief system one may have. I think most humans yearn so much to have someone else agree with them that we often close our ears to the truth that is staring us right in the face. If you find yourself in a debate with me, let us try to understand one another and really look into the possibilities of what the other is telling us. Perhaps through challenges and counterpoints, with respect and attention, we can uncover the truth together. Steem is a great medium for such fruitful conversation.
