Today for TTT, three tune Tuesday I thought I might share some more modern rock. As much as I love some good old heavy metal from the 70's, 80's, and 90's there are some great bands out there producing high quality rock and roll. My picks for today come from a band out of Denmark called Volbeat. They have a great hard rock sound with great guitar rifts and incredible beats. Interestingly they produced an album dedicated to figures out of the old American west called Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies. It's a great album worth listening to if you have the time.
From that very album I picked out a couple of todays songs. The first is about Lola Montez who was a fascinating woman born in Ireland as Eliza Gilbert. After a brief marriage which didn't suit here she became a professional under the name Lola Montez. She was said to be beautiful with captivating charms. Her signature dance was called the spider dance. She became the mistress of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and was eventually elevated to Countess of Landsfeld through her influence on the King. However her influence over the King also made him rather unpopular and forced him to abdicate his throne. She fled the country and ended up in America as dancer and singer and traveled all over the old west and even to Australia. She lived her life on her terms and how she wanted.
Here is "Lola Montez" by Volbeat:
This next song in called For Evigt in Danish which translates to forever in English. It features great guitar rifts and a strong beat. It's a very catchy song, have a listen:
And this third song going back to Shady Gentlemen and Shady Ladies is known as "The Hangman's Body Count" still referencing back to the theme of the of west in America. The west back then would have been a tough place to live. Many places were lawless, summers would be hot with no air conditioning, but it was the land of opportunities. Fortunes were made and lost. This is a great song, give it a listen:
I really like Volbeat, a great band with a strong hard rock sound. Some of their songs have a darker vibe to them but they are always worth listening to. Thanks to for sponsoring the event!
