I had the privilege (yes that word) of working in the Grand Prix days of two strokes.
The barrels are for my Yamaha rd 350 YPVS (electronic power valve).
The rough inlet tracts have been smoothed by me, it gives you around 10% more stupidly addictive two stroke power and BHP.
I am still working on these, and no they are not finished as yet. The rough castings of mass manufacture are the things that need removing, from all of the inlet paths. In a 4 stroke engine, they call it "gas flowed" In a 2t we call it making it like it should be or porting.
I also have to work on shortening the piston skirts, as the new race pistons do not have a big enough inlet. (more fuel and air = more power).......
To reach the dizzy heights of around 80 bhp plus, we also need to bin the original cylindrical carbs (carburetors) and use flat slide with a D.
I am still working on the inlets you see, and have a lot to smooth out.
I am going full on race reeds for inlet too. The next thing on my to do list is make the exhausts, as this is going to be one scintillating ride and one explosive one too. I dare say it will blow up at some point in time, 2 strokes nearly always do. Though that for me is part of the fun of owning them.
After I have made a template and cut the pistons to the correct size for performance and finished the whole bike, I shall upload a video of me and said bike doing a crazy wheelie down the road, and revert to my 18 - 21 year old self. :-)
Keep tuning, and refuse to not own a 2t!
All photos are my own. And stop looking at my walnuts!
