Today's decisive election put forward what people in turkey really wanted, make no mistake Erdogan won by 53% so you really can't call him being really popular, especially when the voter turnout was 87%. Erdogan has now power to make changes within the country such as:
- directly appoint top officials, including ministers and vice-presidents
- intervene in the country's legal system
- impose a state of emergency
Though I don't agree with his policies regarding Kurdish rebels and locking up Journalists and opposition party leaders, you have to agree that this what the people of Turkey chose. We look only from the outside and see that Turkey is now going to be ruled by one man, but however people living in Turkey have a different perspective to how they view Erdogan and his leadership, much more than we do.
It's also important that Erdogan has essentially lifted up Turkey to be a growing economic powerhouse and Erdogan's campaign this time around was built upon how Turkey will now be powerful enough to produce it's own cars and it will manufacture more goods, in short he promised to industrialise Turkey and increasing their GDP.
For now 5 years Erdogan will hold power and he will for sure continue to strengthen his power and increase the foundations he has laid out, however people are not dumb enough that they will let him stay in power if he hasn't produced anything of significant value to the Masses.
