Dieses Foto entstand im März 2013 in Varanasi / Indien. Es war meine erste Reise, die ich komplett allein angetreten bin. Und ich würde lügen, wenn ich Euch sagen würde, ich hatte niemals Angst. An diesem Tag war ich mit einem jungen Inder unterwegs, den ich kurz zuvor kennen gelernt habe. Er hat das Foto geschossen.
An diesem Tag feierten die Hindus ihren Gott Shiva.
Ich gehörte niemals zu den Frauen die Angst vor Spinnen oder Schlangen haben. Im Gegenteil bei Schlangen gerate ich in Verzückung. Ich bin fasziniert von ihren geschmeidigen Bewegungen und der Gefahr, die von ihnen ausgeht.
Diese Kobra gehörte einem Schlangenbeschwörer in Varanasi. Und ich ging stark davon aus, dass ihre Giftzähne entfernt wurden, sonst hätte auch ich mich nicht getraut sie zu halten.
In Indien steht die Kobra u.a. für Fruchtbarkeit. Aber auch im alten Ägypten soll die Kobra als Schutzgöttin des Pharao gedient haben.

This photo was taken in March 2013 in Varanasi / India. It was my first trip, which I started completely alone. And I would lie if I told you I was never afraid.
This day I was on the road with a young Indian, whom I met shortly before. He took the picture.
On that day the Hindus celebrated their god Shiva.
I was never one of those women who were afraid of spiders or snakes. On the contrary, with snakes, I get ecstatic. I am fascinated by their supple movements and the danger they pose.
This cobra belonged to a snake charmer in Varanasi. And I strongly assumed that their poison fangs were removed, otherwise I wouldn't have dared to hold her either.
In India, the cobra stands for fertility. But also in ancient Egypt the cobra is said to have served as the protective-goddess of Pharaoh
