Lovecraft Country ended with a bang. It was a good conclusion to all of the themes of the show. From racism, to magic, to family, they all got a satisfying conclusion.
But I have to say, the first half of the episode was pretty boring. In fact, they could have easily cut it out and focus on the ending a lot more. Maybe give us a much needed epilogue. The beginning was just too underwhelming. Plus the transition from the beginning of the episode, to the finale and best part of the episode was cringe worthy in my opinion. It is like the tone of this episode is all over the place.
However, the last part of the episode was pretty intense. Atticus (Jonathan Majors), Leti (Jurnee Smollett), Hippolyta (Aunjanue Ellis), Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku), Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams), even little Dee (Jada Harris) and Ji-Ah (Jamie Chung) all unite to try and save Tic from Christina Braithwhite (Abbey Lee).
They are all fantastic actors. They have displayed some amazing acting throughout the show and I am glad that they are getting more work because it. Jonathan Majors and Wunmi Mosaku are joining the MCU. Jurnee Smollett got a Netflix movie called Spiderhead acting alongside Chris Hemsworth. Jamie Chung will star in a movie called The Misfits alongside Pierce Brosnan and Tim Roth. I really hope to see more from the rest of the actors, they did a brilliant job in this show.
It's hard to focus on the negative of this episode when the ending was so good and so satisfying. I mean, sure, it was pretty over the top, but this show usually does over the top and does it pretty well. It also depicts almost all white people as terrible, which some people might have a problem with, but not me. It was all for this clever ending. I felt like the ending of the show was such a clever twist and a strong saying about racism in our own society. It was really well done. I don't want to give too much away, but I hope everyone will get it.
In the end it was a fitting ending to a show about magic and racism. It just wasn't Lovecraftian. There was no horror atmosphere. Sorry. There just wasn't. I was really expecting some clever twist to connect it all, as there are very few subtle Lovecraft references. But the ending was too finale to be Lovecraftian. And not very Eldritch. It was just satisfying and very emotionally fulfilling.
I would still love a second season for the show. Sure, it wasn't an open ending. But I would love to see what is next for these characters.
