Ok. This episode was different and I liked it. More classical horror combined with some racism. Also this episode focuses more on Leti, so Jurnee Smollett really gets a chance to shine. Although I am not sure I am a fan of what the writers are doing with the character.
This episode feels like a complete cut from the previous one, until the end. Leti buys a house, a really big house, in a white neighborhood. She convinced her sister, Ruby Baptiste (played by Wunmi Mosaku), who she has a very strained relationship with her to move in with her. Plus she turns the house into a boarding house with many others moving in there. The neighbors are not happy about it.
Most of the episode feels like it is an episode about race relation and racism. How the white neighbors react to their new neighbors.
But this is a horror show and the horror is never far behind. It's just not classical hunted house horror. I am not sure that it is Lovecraft horror, but it is something. Also, it develops in a really unexpected way. Not classical horror at all.
It was a really good episode. Very atmospheric. In the end it helped build towards the bigger plot. I am not a fan of the developing relationship between Leti and Atticus, but maybe the show will change my mind with time. Hopefully.
I am very curious to see what will happen next.
