Well, that was a crazy episode. It was also crazy good. Even though it didn't move the plot along by much, but it explored topics of race and gender in a very interesting manner. It is had some very good interesting character development for a few side characters. Also, this episode has a lot of scary and disgusting moments. Prepare yourselves.
First I want to mention Misha Green, who is the showrunner and writer of this show. She is doing a brilliant job on this show and I hope to see more from her in the future. Especially in the horror genre. But in this episode, you can tell that Jordan Peele is an executive producer on this show. You feel his special way of dealing with loaded issues not through talking or metaphors, but through very interesting visuals that are only possible in the horror genre. I mean really, this was terrible to watch. You need a strong stomach for this episode.
Like the last episode hinted, Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku) is back. Her plot in this episode is really good. Not exactly plot, but the journey that she goes through. Through her plot we get to explore race and gender relationships in a brand new horrific way. It also gave her some great character development, but not how one would image it. Also, if you think magic was crazy until now, this episode turns it up into an 11. William (Jordan Patrick Smith) and Christina (Abbey Lee) have some really interesting roles in this episode and a plot twist that I didn't see coming, although some people did, so I guess it's not too shocking. But generally this was a shocking to behold episode.
Montrose Freeman (Michael Kenneth Williams), Atticus' father also gets some very interesting character development. For now it doesn't contribute much to the plot, just to his character, but maybe it will make a difference down the line. It was still really good to have him to be not a complete caricature of a failed father.
Leti and Atticus have smaller roles in this episode. Although they do not abandon their search and still try to decipher the language of Adam. This episode builds their relationship even further. They didn't seem like much of a couple to me until the end of this episode. Also, for someone who reads so many books, Atticus isn't really good at explaining himself with words. But still, they make a really nice couple in a strange way.
It was a really really good episode. I am not sure where this show is going, but I really enjoy the ride.
