Comic-Con at Home wasn't a big hit in my opinion, but it did remind me of a show that I was looking forward to, Lovecraft Country. I love horror.
The show will be based on a book by the same name written by Matt Ruff and published in 2016. Now H.P. Lovecraft really did love people take his work and continue it. Writing stories in his own world of cosmic horror. Something which he did himself as his universe connects to that of The King in Yellow which was published in 1895. I love to read about H.P. Lovecraft, but I have yet to read his stories. But a lot of people accuse Lovecraft and his stories of racism. So this book and this show in my opinion will probably be a subversion of that. Although from what I understand even in his stories people are the worst monsters of them all. I prefer to watch horror then reading it, but I will get to it eventually.
Jordan Peele and J. J. Abrams are executive producers on the show. Since Jordan Peele has proven himself as a horror mastermind, I have high hopes for this show.
The show itself will follow Atticus Black (played by Jonathan Majors), his friend Letitia Dandridge (played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Atticus' Uncle George (played by Courtney B. Vance). Together they travel across the country to look for Atticus Black's missing father, during the 1950s in Jim Crow America. The show will deal with issues of race as they travel across America, while they might also find some true Lovecraftian monsters. But, I have a feeling that people might be the worst monsters of them all.
The missing father also has a Lovecraftian vibe. It is never good when someone goes missing in horror stories. Especially, since sometimes, some families are particularly linked to eldritch monsters. So we could be looking at some interesting interpretation of this aspect.
The show is set to come out on August 16, 2020 on HBO if you love horror and Lovecraft, you should probably put this show on your to watch list.
