I'm not the biggest fan of reality and talent shows, but Strictly Come Dancing makes me smile. This BBC show has been running for 13 years and my wife and daughter have always watched it together. I've not been a dedicated viewer, but it is entertaining and full of joy.
Susan Calman is a gay Scottish comedian who we love and have seen live recently. She claims she hasn't worn a dress or danced with a man in decades, but she seems to be loving her time on the show and looks terrified of being ejected when it comes to the judging. She's not got the body of a traditional dancer, but this is just wonderful. Her partner Kevin Clifton is doing a great job.
There are others who really are great dancers. Some have had some previous experience, but not this type of dancing. Who gets to stay is at the whim of the public vote and so a big fanbase does help. In previous years some really bad dancers have gone a long way as the public just loved them anyway.
I don't like shows that try to humiliate people. Some of those featuring non-celebrities can be good as long as they don't get into sob-stories about poor old granny.
The Strictly formula has been really successful around the world with about 40 countries having a version. We saw some of the Australian show when we were there. It was on a smaller scale and we didn't know any of the contestants, but it was fun.
I'm not that inspired to dance myself. My partner and I are mis-matched in height, so it wouldn't work too well for us. I'll stick with bopping at gigs and parties.
What's your guilty pleasure? Not that I feel guilty about this.
BTW Some of you may not be old enough to remember the old Wonder Woman show from which the music was taken.
I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars
