One of our favourite TV shows is a celebrity panel show that's all about trivia called QI. We managed to get tickets for the filming of a show in the next series. It's not easy as they are free and very popular. We actually went to the filming of the pilot for another show at the same studios recently as that got us a chance of QI.
The studios were previously London Weekend TV, but are now used for various shows across the BBC and independent channels. As on our previous visit is seems they are not that well prepared for people actually turning up. You are stuck outside, but luckily the weather was good. They keep getting you to squash together so they can everyone through the gate.
You can't take pictures inside, but it's just a typical TV studio with a few hundred people in the audience. They had screens up giving us lots of trivial facts to keep us amused whilst they filled the place. I don't think they like empty seats. Eventually Sandi Toksvig and the panelists came out. Seeing the massive (2m tall) Richard Osman hug tiny Sandi was funny. They recorded for nearly two hours, so there will be a lot of editing for the 30 minute show. There was some swearing that is bound to be cut out. It's all very light stuff, but they are very sharp at coming up with jokes.
It's a fun way to spend an evening and relatively cheap for London, although we have to get the train in. We'll be trying for other shows.
Here's one from the previous series.
