SteemSports presents: Dennis "The Menace" Bermudez vs "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung
The Korean Zombie makes his long awaited return, and he will be welcomed back by the heavy-handed former division 1 wrestler: Dennis 'The Menace' Bermudez.
Fighter Profile: Chan Sung Jung
Chan Sung Jung returns to the Octagon in his first bout since 2013. The Korean Zombie was an absolute contender in the featherweight division when his run was cut derailed by the former undisputed (and current interim) champion Jose Aldo. A great boxer at range, Zombie has shown precision and power in his knees and fists with his finishes over Mark Hominick and Dustin Poirier.
His engagement with Dustin 'The Diamond' made for arguably the greatest fight of all time, a must watch for anyone new to the sport. Jung is a fan favorite, and he is non-stop offense on his back or on the feet...expect him to show no fear and engage the opponent immediately, we will see if his time off has changed any of his old tactics.
Fighter Profile: Dennis Bermudez
Dennis Bermudez is the talent Ultimate Fighter product, and all around contender and mainstay in UFC's 145-pound division. He has had crucial losses which have kept him right outside the top 5 his whole career...but he is a vast talent nonetheless. Bermudez has never found himself in trouble on the ground unless he is already hurt, but his top control is some of the best in mix martial arts period.
A 7 fight win streak was cut short by top 5 staple Ricardo Lamas, but Bermudez has rebuilt himself and is now on an impressive two fight win streak...both against veterans in Krusher Kawajiri and submission ace Rony Jason. Dennis has a lot to prove with this upcoming fight, and the Korean Zombie will be arguably the biggest name he has ever faced.
The Matchup & Prediction
Stylistically this matchup is awesome, a power punching grinder vs. an unorthodox boxer with a trick ground game. Zombie does have the tools to rock Dennis early and submit him, but his freshness must be questioned after 3 years of mandated military service. Bermudez has been active and looking more durable than ever, his cario has always been somewhat questionable...but his conditioning improvements have been completely evident as of late.
If this fight was taking place 3 years ago, a young Dennis would be manhandled by the more experienced and crafty veteran Jung. I can not overlook the decay in skill for all fighters who have taken immense time off, and Bermudez is truly at his pinnacle. This is wrestling and aggression vs. grace and jiu jitsu technique...beyond styles and skill, one man has been fighting whereas another has been fighting in a different way. Respect to both men, but one victor seems most evident in this bout.
