Uighur Muslims living in Turkey have been meeting outside the Chinese embassy in Ankara. After a meeting there on Wednesday, they demanded that the Chinese embassy inform them of the conditions under which the Chinese government had taken their family members into custody.
Earlier, in December last year, about 100 Uighurs gathered in front of the Chinese consulate in Istanbul and protested peacefully for 16 days. They claimed that they have not been able to find family members since 2016.
"We know of at least 5,199 people," said Mirzahmet Ilyasoglu, speaking on behalf of the protesters. They can't be found. The list has been submitted to the Chinese Consulate. But Chinese officials did not submit the documents.
Meanwhile, new allegations of rape, sexual harassment and physical abuse have surfaced in Uyghur detention centers in China. The United States has strongly condemned the incident. Although China claims that the United States has condemned the BBC's report, it is completely false.
