Ah the 80s is it me or was the World a lot more peaceful and fun back then? I remember life just being about watching the Racoons and Thundercats and then out to play on my BMX (with spokes) until the Sun went down. Life was a dream building bases and dens. I feel like kids back then still had their imaginations and they weren't stuck to an Ipad or a lap top all day.
The days always seemed to be Sunny with deep red sunsets, popping into a corner shop to buy stickers for the latest sticker albums whether it was the football Panini sticker album or Garbage Pail Kids. When we did have time to play on a games console it was on the "SNES' or "Megadrive' and the games were absolutely immense. Mario, Sonic, Streetfighter Two, the list was endless back then, just everything seemed better. Thats without mentioning the fact that contrails actually used to be contrails and not chemtrails that spread all over the sky and wipe out the Sun like they do nowadays.
Don't even get me started on the music, it was timeless! The era of the electronic keyboard and fluorescent peroxide hair where the music was REAL music with actual singing, rhythm, beats, and melodies, not like today's trash which literally burns your ears! God I sound so old, but its true music had soul and meaning back in those days. The band 'Tears for Fears' are still a guilty pleasure of mine to this day!
The 80s were the days where if you bought a penny sweet they actually cost a penny not 3p or 10p for one of those long bananas like now. Alright the activist in me knows they were toxic as fuck, but when your'e 12 years old you don't really care! Oh the mischief too, carol singing when you shouldn't be (and can't even sing) 'knock down ginger' on poor old people's houses. (for those of you not from the UK this is where you ring the doorbell on a random house and then runaway)
Life was a dream and as 80s kids we could achieve anything, we were the kings and queens of our castle. A time where kids could be kids. I for one will always be grateful for the 80s, Ed the Duck, Gordan the Gopher, and all the other weird and wonderful things that made that THE best decade. I would love to hear in the comments below what you most loved about the 80s. If you weren't around in that decade then I'm sorry to say my heart goes out to you!
