I've been on a Steem bender for the last day or two, we are in a travel-based limbo and I am taking the opportunity to read more articles than I have in a while, and leave more comments than I have since I won top commenter on esteem back in the day. But whether it be due to lack of sleep or just the law of probability, I finally put my foot right in my mouth.
I guess its time to get chewing and say what I feel!
A lot of people are worried about the future of Steem. The jury may be out on Steemit, but Steem is going to do just fine. But let's talk about Steemit. It was a broken beta when I got here, and more than a year later, its still a broken beta, better than ever, with none of the 'problems' having been fixed.
But surely someone should do something!
I've read a ton of posts (for over a year now) by concerned plankton and minnows about why steem is failing, broken, doesn't work, can't make it work. Why and what things should change, and who should change them, are always brought up. I have even seen 25-47 rep users threatening that if someone doesn't do something that this whole platform is going to fall apart, or whatever apocalyptic vision they can come up with.
Steem may not be for you. Anyone should feel free to Sola, Ono, Facebook, Youtube, Medium or whatever other platform strikes your fancy. I won't beg anyone to stay. Wanna know what I think, though? It won't be long until they get all complainy over on those platforms too.
It is within this (year-long) context that I stumbled upon 's post about stuff thats killing steemit. Since I am forever locked into the blockchain, I might just as well chew the shoe and come right out and share it with everyone.
My first comment was edited after I realized how it was being interpreted, but the original offensive paragraph is correctly referenced in the first response. Speaking of editing, I am constantly editing my posts and comments. Even on discord. Moving on.
So my (now lost) point was - see something wrong, fix it. Are you not fixing it because it takes a lot of work? Yeah, us too. We all should be doing things that add to the platform. Each has their own style. This post is not my way of saying that you are not doing enough, instead I want to say that, in my most humble opinion, complaining, by itself, is not a value adding activity.
Now I know this is not fair to new users. They probably don't know that these same complaints have been discussed and deliberated and worked on and groups spawned and talked about some more since steem was invented. But I think this is deeper than Steem. This is life stuff people. This is philosophy.
Yes the world is ending due to catastophic climate change and shitposts poisoning the waters and spammers deforesting the Amazon. We know. We live here too. And complaining about it will do absolutely nothing to change anything.
These are just my thoughts. I honestly know that there are lots and lots of really smart people working on this platform, and only a very small percentage of those work for steemit inc in an official capacity. This is the beauty of the platform. Whether you are dazzled by its brilliance or disgusted by its rapacity, when you are on steem you are participating in a modern anarchy. What you see is human, both the good and the bad.
Love and Light to All!
