It has not been long that organic farms or eco-farms have been cropping up in the Philippines. Growing-up in the province, and being surrounded with farmlands, definitely organic farming wasn't the norm back then or even now in our place.
I can say that learning of this way of farming in the country is sort of extra-ordinary. To learn that we Filipinos are getting health-conscious nowadays is a huge CHANGE to our way of life. To actually have seen one, going to an organic farm in Bayawan was a great experience for me.
Meeting Kuya Jotham when he dropped-by at the Dagsa's Art Sanctuary in Bayawan, an invitation to and me to his visit his eco-farm made us visit his place. Although it wasn't that far outside of town, it needed a tricycle ride and a walk uphill to reach it. Apparently there were habal-habals(motorcycles) to bring us up but since we had to wait for one, we decided to just hike. A rare occurence for me here in the Philippines.
"Dorothy, you are no longer in Oz!"
Staring at this view brought me back to my previous life of long ago, seeing the English countryside. Definitely a nostalgic moment suffice to say in Bayawan.

A goat for a pet?
We burst out laughing upon realising it was a goat! Seriously? I've never seen such a thing. I've seen a piglet in one's living room abroad... Well, a goat is rarely seen as a pet in the Philippines.
Mansanitas
Scattered along the road on the way up were mansanita trees with branches full of already ripened fruits. I swear we were not hungry lols...but seeing so many of those trees in one place, compared to just one tree in the neighbourhood where I grew up, plus Kuya Marlon and I sort of forgotten on when were the last times we have eaten its' fruits...
Care for some mansanitas?
in action
Some residents told us to just get on to it when we asked. I remember during the bamboo planting event last April, the kids sort of did a bit of harvesting for their dessert so it's not as if they don't eat them as trees can also be seen from their backyards.
Is it true though that these fruits have healing properties?
I need to do research on this one, does anyone know of its' English name?
At the eco-farm next...
