Introduced to the world by Masaki Yokomori of Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC), an article in 2015 stated the first use of this technology in the Mountain Province of Benguet, Philippines in 2011.
This technology helps prevent the soil from drying, and also prevents the unnecessary loss of fertilizer nutrients, while also serving as repellent, herbicide, and fungicide.
I've never heard of it but came this June, I came face to face with it in JoelTess Organic Farm in BAYAWAN. Kuya Jotham, the owner, not only use it but also has been introducing this technology as a SPEAKER to conferences he have been invited to. Proudly showing us the entirety of his farm, it's amazing to see the result of his 17 years of hardwork, most impressively was his MOKUSAKU plant. I forgot though on since when he have been using his fertilizers through Mokusaku.
The Mokusaku technology
Listening to the process on how it's done, it's a technology that seems to be simplified. Using a stove, having wood and other plants in the farm as firewood, its' smoke goes through a condenser and the fluid collected is called a WOOD VINEGAR, or in science, a pyroligneous acid.
The process
1. An underground stove where the opening and top part are visible.
2. Connecting tubes are visible to the main condenser, plus to a bamboo tube to the right where condensed fluids can drip to a bottle on the floor.
3. Another tube is also attached from the bottom of the condenser to the collecting container to the left.
The science
From this signage, distilled natural wood and plants' waste produce smoke whose components are carbon dioxide, water and organic substances producing organic compounds and about 300 chemical compounds. As they are natural, its' effectivity can be seen around the farm. No pesticides or other commercialised fertilizers, ONLY ORGANIC.
How much firewood is needed to fill a bottle of Mokusaku wood vinegar?
This I can't answer, but I can show you some impressive result. Dare you to believe it!
These tree parts were sprayed on with wood vinegar 4 months before. Do you see the growth? If this can be done on trees, why not with human beings? There is this technology that heal trees, that is effective in producing organic food...let it be known and be utilised, in the country and beyond. An organic farming, a healthy living for everyone.
