BUILDING EMPATHY
Often we heard the word ‘empathy’ in our home, work, school, community or in anywhere.
But, do we really know what it means?
I also do not know what it really means before until life teaches me. Most of us thought that empathy is putting or pouring out yourself and emotions to someone else lives. When life me in digging on, I realized that there’s much more than we thought it is.
Empathy for me making your heart and mind the same towards other people.
I remember when there was that one person came to me and wanted to talk to me. That time, she was in deep pain because of his father. I don’t know what to do during that time. It was my first time to encounter that kind of problem she faced. As she was sharing with pain, my heart broke for her too. All I’ve done was just to listen and comfort her.
We’re never to live in peace with anybody or someone else without EMPATHY. We can’t build a group without even knowing each other. We may do our job correctly as one, but we can’t be called a group without knowing each other’s lives. In that way of knowing each other, there the empathy would come.
In our generation today, everyone wants to move fast and end up skimming relationally. That is why sometimes we missed and neglect important parts of people’s lives that supposed to be we must care about.
In building empathy to others, we must be willing to cry or mourn with them and willing to rejoice and be happy with them.
Romans 12:15, “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”
“All of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude” (1 Peter 3:8 NIV).
