The desire of Jakarta residents to have a new mode of transportation in the form of mass rapid transit (MRT) seems to be realized soon. At present, PT MRT Jakarta conducts signaling trials on trains that will operate on the MRT line later.
In the trial, the MRT train was run from Lebak Bulus Station in South Jakarta to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout in Central Jakarta.
President Director of PT MRT Jakarta, William Sabandar, said that the signaling trial was carried out in three speed categories.
"These two weeks have been completed with a maximum low speed of 30km per hour. Then next week it will be increased to medium speed, which is a maximum of 50-60 kilometers per hour," William said at the HI Roundabout Station, Thursday (08/23/2018).
The third category is high speed, from 80 to 100 kilometers per hour. William said the three categories of speed were to test the signals sent from the Operation Command Center (OCC).
In order to be able to walk from the station to the station, the MRT train will be guided through instructions from the OCC. The instructions are sent via a signal. PT MRT Jakarta tests whether the signal can be detected in the three types of speed.
"If the train goes slowly, the signal can be automatically passed. If it's fast, it's still functioning, not sending instructions to the OCC? It's been checked for the past two weeks," William said.
William said the trial would be carried out until the end of this year. For now, only six series have arrived in Jakarta. The six sets consisted of six carriages or six trains.
Later, there will be 16 circuits operating in Jakarta. All the circuits will be tested for signaling until the end of this year.
"After that, we will start the phase called trial run or trial operation," William said.
This operation trial will last three months, precisely until March 2019. In the operation trial later, the MRT train has not been run commercially.
William said PT MRT would invite certain community groups to take turns trying to take the MRT train. After this phase is complete, the train will operate for the public in March 2019.
"Around mid-March, we will start commercial operations," he said.
