Unemployment
The problem of unemployment seems to be a serious one in many African countries. It has become a big monster staring these countries in the face with its negative consequences. In the days of old, before school leavers were out of school, jobs were there waiting for them. Then, they could pick the jobs they wanted.
I know how it feels to be unemployed. Not something good.
Times have changed. Now it is easier for a camel to go through the needle's eye than for a graduate to secure a job.where have the jobs gone? What is responsible for this state of affairs?.Every year universities, polytechnics, college of education and technical colleges turn out thousands of thousands of graduate who go into the over-saturated labor market to search for non- existent jobs.
One of the causes of unemployment is that as the educational opportunities are being expanded at a rapid rate, little or no thought is given to the provision of unemployment. So, most of the graduates roam the streets.
A second reason is the depressed economies of this countries. Government firms, private establishment, factories, and industries are fast cutting down their workforce. And so suddenly, thousands of those hitherto employed are fired. And the result? The high level of poverty.
The saying, ' an idle mind is the devil's workshop' is quite applicable here.It has been discovered that most of the criminal activities such as robbery, burglary and hired assassination are penetrated by unemployed people.
In order for this problem to be solved, the government should make it a matter of priority to create employment for the teeming population of job-seekers.This can be done by establishing profitable ventures which will generate income for the government. An enabling environment should be created by the government to encourage the private sector to establish factories and projects that will provide employment.
Another important thing that should be done is to train students, before they graduate, to be self-employed. This may involve training such as sewing, soap making, painting, manufacturing household items, leather craft, and farming, depending on the disciplines of the students involved. If these measures are taken, unemployment will be drastically reduced if not totally eradicated.
Once I have enough resources, I will introduce Steemit to more people especially youths to reduce the unemployment rate and add value to the country's economy. I would be launching a campaign then.
