Gratefulness is a virtue, but it is quite common to come across ungrateful people. We need to be grateful for the goodness extended to us. However, it is really unbearable for us if we have come across people who do not reciprocate our kindness with gratitude. Instead, they treat us badly.
If we do not know how to handle the ungrateful people, we would end up living with bitterness. Sooner or later, the bitterness we harbour would hurt us further. It will be like keeping a rotten bitter gourd inside our pocket. Overtime, it will stink and keep others to be away from us.
Although it is difficult to forgive those who are ungrateful of our kindness, it is possible to forgive by being gracious. According to a Chinese idiom, “Return good for evil (以德报怨).” And the Bible has a similar saying, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
