Missing In Virginia: Robert Lee Kelley, vanished after a car accident, 2002.
I have not wanted to combine cases. But later down the road I may have to as some have so little information. I wish each case had enough to have its own time in the spotlight, but alas, it won't always be that way.
That being said, I am combining these two cases based only on their vague similarities and the fact I'm certain Billings has been covered here before.
I in no way think them to be connected. I had heard of Donald Billings case before, but not Robert Kelley's, which is more recent.
Robert Lee Kelley nicknamed Robbie was last seen on July 24, 2002 on Route 675 in Buckingham County Virginia. He was 34 years old at the time of his disappearance. I believe his accident was a single vehicle accident, and Robert had vanished from the scene before authorities arrived. He has not been seen since. It is very unclear if there were witnesses to this accident or not, but I do know a few years ago searches had still been attempted with vague updates and I have provided that link as well.
With Robert's case I am thinking he was probably injured when he walked away, and his remains just haven't been found. But I have no proof or speculation beyond any of this, with what little information I have.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Robert Lee Kelley, please contact Virginia State Police 434-352-3452
Donald Billings, nicknamed Donnie, was 30 years old when he was last seen. Donald was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Route 16 around the Hungry Mother Grocery in Marion Virginia at 5 pm on February 14, 1997 in his sister's car.
The driver of the other vehicle said Donald appeared uninjured, and Donald told them he was "alright". At some point not long after, Donald walked away seen headed towards Mitchell Valley, and was never seen again.
It was cold and icy the day of the accident. I don't know if these remaining statements are rumors or eyewitness accounts have claimed he may have hitched a ride with a truck driver at the Village truck stop on I-81 in Atkins Virginia, (between Bristol and Roanoke).
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Donald Ray Billings please contact Smyth County Sheriff department 540-783-7204
Are these both cut and dry cases of injured people walking away from an accident and perishing?
