It’s been almost 50 years since the golden age of Pinoy music peaked in the late 1970s and times have changed in the local music scene. OPM or Original Pilipino Music or Original Pinoy Music despite being the staple sound in the Philippines during the 90's and 70's have slowly withered out and being out-famed by Korean girlbands, cover albums, and the western sound.
Despite myself liking these new trendy genres now like Kpop. I would still not forget on how OPM has been a huge part of my earlier years. Growing up along with your friends and occassionally singing songs from Filipino bands like Parokya ni Edgar and the Eraserheads during break times from school and falling in love along with the occassional "harana" or serenading were memories that I treasure during those years.
Anyway, despite being untalented here is me trying my best to sing-songs. As I want to let the whole world to know how good OPM was, I want to share these three songs that were popular hits during my college years. Memorable songs and songs of courtships.
We filmed these along with my buddy Michael who is playing the guitar and thats me singing, sorry for the poor video quality. Hope you guys like it.
