Hi guys let me share to you my experience in visiting the province of Marinduque. I had given a chance to get here when i was assigned by our company with my workmates to do some project here for one week. The island province is sometimes called the heart of the Philippines because of two reasons first, the province is located in what we considered the geographical center of the country, second, Marinduque viewed from above takes the shape of a heart.
To get here from Manila ride a bus from Cubao bound to Lucena City, Quezon Province. From Lucena city just ride a tricycle bound to Dalahican port then ride a "roro" or boat for only 280 pesos just two hours travel to Balanacan port, Mogpog Marinduque. Here's a view from Balanacan port
This is the statue of the province beloved patron saint "The mother of Immaculate Succor" or Ina ng Biglang awa. They believe that they were spared from the wrath of typhoon Yolanda because of the patron saint.
The province is composed of six municipality namely Mogpog, Boac, Gasan, Buenavista, Torrijos and Sta. Cruz. It is surrounded by crystaline waters of the Sibuyan sea and Tayabas Bay. We stayed at Hilltop Lodge Hotel in Mogpog for as low as 500php per day, the people here are very kind we can cook in our room without extra charges, they were very accommodating, the rooms are clean and very comfortable.
This is the Church near our lodge. Mogpog church
Let me tour you around to Boac the provincial capital of Marinduque . This is a small town surrounded with historical structures and old buildings. It's very beautiful, clean and quiet here, no traffic. You can just walk arround the market and visit the century old Boac carhedral.
Just a few steps from market is the famous Boac cathedral established in 1792. It's a huge historical cathedral built in bricks and rocks. It's natural beauty is preserved , so serene and quiet place. Im amazed by it's design. I saw how great the structure of the church was. It's look old but still you can see the firm formation.
Near the church you can buy souviners and art crafts
Marinduque is well known of the Moriones Festival being celebrated throughout the Holy Week. Still the province has a lot of attractions all over the year.
One of the beach that is near our lodge is Ulong Bay Beach resort few minutes away from the town of Mogpog. Our group enjoyed staying at the beach.
Here's one of my favorite sight here sunset at the beach
Marinduque is such a peaceful and beautiful place with historical attractions. Definitely a must see place. The food and hotel's here are very affordable, the surroundings are clean and the air is refreshing. We enjoyed staying here and i wish to comeback here to see the Moriones festival and the caves, beach, and mountains that i didn't see yet.
