‘Acoustic Kitty’ was a secret, 1960s CIA project that tried to turn cats into spies. They thought implanting microphones and transmitters into cats would create ‘living, walking surveillance machines’- but it didn’t last long. The first test of an Acoustic Kitty ended with the cat getting hit by a cab, and they finally concluded that trained cats ‘would not be practical’ for their ‘highly specialized needs.’
